My Updated Skincare Routine + Review

Me Fresh-faced, no makeup

Skincare is extremely important, especially because your skin is one of the first things people notice about you when they see you. Since my last article about my skincare, I have made a few changes, and I see even more of a difference. As suggested previously, water is fundamental to healthy and clear skin. It refreshes and renews your skin, and I definitely can point out the weeks when I drink more water than others. I personally try to drink water about 70 percent of the time (maybe more). I drink soda or juice maybe once or twice a week, but most times it’s when I’m tired of drinking water.

So what has changed in my actual routine? Well, I use a few new products that I love! First, I started using a toner. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what the purpose of a toner was until I saw videos from famed YouTubers such as Missy Lynn and Vicky Logan. If you are unaware of what a toner’s job is, I will explain now. Toners are basically supposed to help cleanse and tighten the skin and also reduce the appearance of pores. I struggle with huge pores around my nose, so I thought that a toner would help “tone those bad boys down,” and of course it did! I use Neutrogena’s Alcohol-free Toner (pictured below). I use the toner after my face is thoroughly cleansed with Neutrogena Natural’s Purifying Facial Cleanser with Makeup Remover. I let my face air-dry, then I gently dap in the toner all on my face and neck with a cotton ball. Following the toner, I use a new moisturizer too. I now use Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel instead of a cream moisturizer because I noticed that my skin, especially in the summer and around my T-zone was accumulating so much oil.

In addition to the two new Neutrogena products, I purchased the Dual Action Cleansing System (pictured below) from Ulta. It ran me $25 and I got tons of free makeup with my purchase. I use the Dual Action with the cleansing brush and St. Ives Apricot Scrub, once or twice a week to deeply cleanse my skin of dirt and excess makeup. The Dual Action is gentle, but tough enough to get into my pores and I love it. I would honestly recommend getting this one instead of the more expensive ones because it works just as well. The only difference is that it only has one speed.

Review

I give both the Neutrogena toner and water gel a 5 out of 5 stars! The toner has effectively reduced the size of my pores, while giving my skin the strength it needs; while the water gel has made my skin feel refreshed and not over-saturated with product. It goes on smooth, just like water and moisturizes without making my skin oily. I honestly would recommend both of these products to people with any skin type. The toner runs about $6-$7 at Walmart, and the water gel is pretty pricey ($17) at Walmart and it’s also very small; however, it’s worth the price and it lasts longer than expected.
