Tapping Into Your Spiritual Strength

Can you remember a time when something inconvenienced you at the last minute and you immediately get a dump of anxiety or dread at the thought of what you have to do to prepare for the new task at hand?

In that very moment, you are acting and responding to what you believe your physical self can handle. You’re saying the task will be difficult, annoying or a waste of time. If this sounds like you, don’t worry; this reaction is common and normal. Most of the time, we don’t think about what we can do to quick switch that way of thinking until after the fact, but recently God has been dealing with me on how to stop this feeling of defeat dead in it’s tracks.

Right in that moment of dread, he taught me to train myself to:

  1. See the glass half-full (find the positive in the situation or choose not to be upset by it)
  2. Think or speak bible verses that speak to me spiritual strength such as:

2 Corinthians 12:9:But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Psalms 22:9:But you, LORD, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me.

Isaiah 40:29-31:He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

The word of God tells and reminds us that we were not created to get go through this experience of life without his guidance and strength. Tapping into our spiritual strength is our best available resource and it’s a skill that gets better with practice!

So remember this, the next time a situation comes up and you’re thinking of responding with a negative emotion, take a quick moment to correct your thinking by reminding yourself of the spiritual strength God has given you. God is living within you and counting on you to unleash his power, use it!
