If you haven’t seen Kombucha flying off the shelves or people drinking it then you have probably had your eyes closed for the majority of some months now. I recently jumped on this healthy trend train and I am very happy that I did (I’m drinking it as I type this!)
What is Kombucha?
Kombucha is a blend of either black tea, green tea or both that is fermented (there is natural occurring alcohol) by colony bacteria. Yes, I know that sounds disgusting BUT its the good kind of bacteria! Kombucha has been around for more than 2,000 years in China and has been known to cure cancer, relieve depression and more.
What are the health benefits?
There are a whole host of these bad boys! The main health benefit that most Americans are freaking out about is gut health. Thats right, those intestines are where all of your food goes and digestion occurs. Hippocrates said “all diseases start in the gut” and he was lying. For example, if you eat processed food your body tries to digest it and sees it as foreign and some people form cancers due to it. Other health benefits include aiding and regulating in digestion, arthritis relief, detoxing the liver, boosting your immune system and being composed of a huge amount of healthy vitamins, acids and enzymes!
Where can I get it?
I got the Kombuca in the picture above from Whole Foods but I also picked my boyfriend one up from Walmart. Any health food store should suffice. The stuff is literally everywhere!
How does it taste?
OK, so I am super picky when it comes to how things taste and smell. Mine smells very tea-like with a funny little alcoholic twang at the end. Its not overpowering nor does it smell bad. Its smells pretty sweet. Now for taste, its carbonated which i really like. It obviously tastes like pineapple , peach tea but there is a very very faint vinegar taste at the end. All in all I give it a 8/10 just because in my mind I’m thinking “Bria you’re drinking bacteria” lol but I feel energized and I feel like I’m doing something good for my body so that makes up for it. Go Getchu Some!!
